Wave’s Music at Mill Road performance is a tribute to the Bossa Nova, particularly to recently deceased João Gilberto; vocalist, guitarist and acknowledged creator of the Bossa Nova style. It is said that his “seductive vocals caressed the ear as well as the soul. The voice pulled in one direction and the beat in another.” João transformed the rhythm of playing slow sambas to produce this unique sophisticated style of music (Bossa Nova) which opened the door to modern harmonics being produced by the likes of legendary composer Antonio Carlos Jobim. Wave will also feature the music of composer, musician, and vocalist Marcos Valle (Summer Samba) who represents musicians that ushered in a sophisticated second wave of the Bossa Nova movement. Wave consists of vocalist Jerry Sociedade, pianist Ginny Simonds, and bassist Chris Thompson. The three are thrilled to have as special guests for this performance talented musicians Brazilian percussionist Andrés Navarro and trumpeter Michel Renaud.
