Wave’s Farewell Performance @ Zolas Restaurant
Dec 14 @ 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm

Wave, the jazz trio with vocalist Jerry Sociedade, pianist Ginny Simonds, and bassist Chris Thompson, will be performing on Saturday December 14th for Zolas Saturday Live Jazz, from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Wave plays bossa novas and other Brazilian rhythms in the original Brazilian style and which Jerry sings in Portuguese (his mother tongue). Wave also plays jazz standards and Latin tunes which Jerry sings in Spanish.

Wave’s special guests for this performance will be trumpeter Michel Renaud and Chilean-born percussionist Andrés Navarro who specializes in Brazilian percussion. The five recently performed for a very successful Music @ Mill Road concert in the Katie Diamond Jazz Cabaret series in Chelsea. The music program for the December 14th performance at Zolas will include the tunes played during the Chelsea concert – tunes made popular by João Gilberto, largely credited for inventing the bossa nova style and to a lesser extent covering the music of Marcos Valle, one of the key composers from the second ‘wave’ of bossa nova.

December 14th at Zolas will be Wave’s farewell performance. After an amazing eight years of playing together, including performing in Merrickville’s Jazz Festival twice, in the Buckingham Jazz Festival, for sold-out concerts at Ottawa’s GigSpace Performance Studio twice, and numerous times at area restaurants, Ginny, Jerry, and Chris have decided to disband Wave on a ‘high note’ in order to pursue other interests.
